Overview
The Razor’s Edge is an exceptionally narrow and long mountain peak that rises like a great wall across the sky. Its distinctive silhouette β a knife-edge ridge stretching for miles β makes it one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Upper World.
The Two Sides
The peak is so massive that it casts its own shadow across the settlements below. Residents refer to the:
- Morning Side β The eastern face, which catches the first light
- Evening Side β The western face, which falls into shadow earlier
This division shapes daily life, agriculture, and even the local culture.
Farming Steppes
The inhabitants have carved terraced steppes into the lower slopes of the Razor’s Edge for farming. These stepped fields make efficient use of the available land and provide stable ground for crops that would otherwise be impossible to grow on such steep terrain.
- Carved stone terraces lined with crops
- Irrigation channels fed by captured cloud moisture
- Villages nestled into the cliff faces
Defensive Retreat
During Blight Tide incursions, residents abandon the lower steppes and retreat to the top of the Razor’s Edge. The narrow ridge is easily defensible β a small number of defenders can hold the peak against vastly superior numbers, buying time for the tide to recede.
